Diary of an entrepreneur: you cannot control everything

Diary of an entrepreneur: you cannot control everything

Today I will and have to keep it short. Something happened and it forces me to shift my priorities within a split second.

After I got home from Essen, late last night, I knew there were tons of things I would have to address with the leadership round at work. With all the things that are going on in the group, it’s key to stay focused on our long term goals, but act on them short term as well.

Eager as I am, I got up at 6 am and “rushed” to the office, only to be stuck in an early morning traffic jam for longer than I would have liked. Happens.

After two hours of intense and productive meetings, I got a phone call. My wife had collapsed on the street and was on her way to the hospital (in an ambulance as I got the call).

Needless to say, I had to drop everything.

Moments like these make you realize what is important in life. And there is nothing more dear to me, than my wife and our little family.

The horrible thing was, that as I got to the hospital, they did not let me in. Covid restrictions didn’t allow me to see her, at all.

I won’t comment on that, though. I’m not in a place to criticize the current health system and situation. But it certainly wasn’t great to be standing outside the hospital, not knowing how she was.

Two hours later, she came out of the hospital. I love hamsters, so seeing her swollen cheeks was a nice added bonus.

I’m just glad she is okay. And I will turn off my phone for now.

Life is short.

We have to cherish our health and tell the ones we love how much they mean to us, far more often than we do.

Have a good night.
