Why I'm Bringing My Work Closer to Home
Over two decades of international work, and now I'm turning my attention closer to home. I want to connect with more entrepreneurs and local businesses in the region where I actually live — where my kids grow up and where I go to the bakery every morning.
Over the past two decades, I've worked with companies across so many different fields. It has always been about marketing and sales, organizational development, and change management. In times like these — where AI is taking away a lot of simple-task jobs and forcing us to rethink how we work — I believe that kind of work is more important than ever.
But I've noticed something. I've taken on a lot of projects that are very far away from where my family lives. Pre-COVID, I traveled constantly, and to be honest, I enjoyed it. I've seen so much of the world, and my life has been filled with insights, perspectives, and cultures from all over the globe.
I still enjoy traveling. I still enjoy working in an international environment with different companies and people. At the same time, I'm also longing for a bit more of a stable connection to the place where I live. Where I see my kids grow up. Where I go to the bakery every morning to get some bread.
I want to be available to the people and businesses that are actually close to me — in Lachen, around the Obersee, in Rapperswil, Pfäffikon, Chur, and the wider region where my family has its roots in Glarus.
So I started working on a few ideas on how I can make myself more available to local businesses and start working with entrepreneurs in the region more than I have in the past.
I'm sure this won't be 100% of everything I do from the get-go, but I do have to put myself out there. Just meet new people that are actually a lot closer to home. That can be daunting, honestly — because you'll see these people when you go to the supermarket, and your kids might go to the same school. You don't have that dynamic when you're working with a client that's 500 to 1,000 km away.
I don't know exactly how to approach this just yet. But talking about it and saying out loud that I would love to get to know more people closer to home — and tell them that I'm available to help — feels like a really good first step.
Of course, I also built myself a little website for this. Very much a work in progress. First version of me being me. I like to just create something and then see if anything sticks. It doesn't have to be perfect, but I do want it to be out there.
I hope this will bring some great opportunities in the upcoming months. I'm hopeful and genuinely thrilled about going this route — without just relying on my very international network.
If you know anyone who might be interested in working with me, please send them marketing-march.ch as a reference. I've even included a first introductory workshop that can be booked directly through the site.
